Michael A. Vigorito, LMFT, CGP, CST-S

Mr. Vigorito is a sex therapist, author and trainer.  As a psychotherapist, he provides individual, couples and group psychotherapy for a range of sexual and behavioral health concerns: consensual sexual problems, relationship and sexual dissatisfaction, sexual disorders, erotic identity development, and sex-related drug use.

Mr. Vigorito developed a sexual health assessment and treatment protocol with Douglas Braun-Harvey, which was published in Treating Out of Control Sexual Behavior - Rethinking Sex Addiction (SSTAR 2018 Health Professional Book Award Winner).  Mr. Vigorito has designed and implemented several SAMHSA and CDC-funded training programs to integrate sexual health services into behavioral health care. These programs offered trainings and technical assistance in conducting routine sexual health conversations, sexual risk-reduction counseling, and LGBTQ+ affirming practices within behavioral health systems of care. During his most recent affiliation with the University of Maryland - Prevention Research Center, he implemented the Sexual and Gender Diversity Learning Community – a CDC-funded, LGBTQ+ affirmative care training program for mental health providers and organizations. This program was co-developed with Sean Lare, LCSW-C. Mr. Vigorito also provides local and national workshops for behavioral health providers on various sexual health topics, including out of control sexual behavior assessment and treatment, sexuality and gender diversity, and integrating sexual health into behavioral health care (Please visit the workshops page for a complete list).

Mr. Vigorito is licensed in the District of Columbia, Virginia, and California as a Marriage & Family Therapist [DC LMFT000153; VA 0717001280; CA MFC41512] and Maryland as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor [LC5169]. Mr. Vigorito is also a Certified Group Psychotherapist through the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA) and a Certified Sex Therapist and Sex Therapist Supervisor through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT). Mr. Vigorito is the President-elect of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research (SSTAR).
